Some and Any    For many learners, the use of some and any presents a challenge. Although they learn the rules at an early stage, many students can still find this area of grammar confusing. In my experience, it is one of most frustrating areas of grammar outside the verb system for students. There are also some subtle uses of some and any outside the scope of the standard rules which can be problematic, even advanced learners. Definitions: 1)The words some and any are used for countable and uncountable nouns. In general, we could say that some means a few / a little and any means none in negative clauses or a few / a little in questions. 2) Some and any are used with countable or uncountable nouns to speak about and describe indefinite quantities or when the exact quantity of something is not important in the discourse. These sentences are truly hypothetical and unreal because it is now too late for the condition or its result to exist. There is always some implication of regret with type 3 conditional sentences. THE SECOND CONDITIONAL We use the second conditional to talk about an imaginary situation (impossible). Ex: if someone asked me to hold a tarantula, I wouldn't do it. (I don't think someone will ask me to do this). Second conditional sentences talk about the present or the future. They often talk about the opposite of what is true or real. Ex: if I had enough money, I would buy a car. (I haven't got enough money now).   * 2nd conditional is a structure used for talking about unreal situations in the present or in the future. The second conditional is used to talk about things which are unreal (not true or not possible) in the present or the future -- things which don't or won't happen. The first conditional sentences Type 1 conditional sentences are used to talk about real and possible situations. Here we use a simple present tense in the if-clause and will /can / may + infinitive in the result clause.Study the sentences given below. If I am hungry, I will get something to eat. If you are hungry, you can eat an apple. If it rains ,we may get wet. The if clause talks about things that are possible; but not certain: if I’m late again, I’ll lose my job. The Conditional Type zero We can make a zero conditional sentence with two present simple verbs (one in the 'if clause' and one in the 'main clause'): If + present simple,   ....present simple. . This conditional is used when the result will always happen. So, if water reaches 100 degrees, it always boils. It's a fact. I'm talking in general, not about one particular situation. The result of the 'if clause' is always the main clause. The 'if' in this conditional can usually be replaced by 'when' without changing the meaning.
